In a police report, the officers summoned the individual, and upon questioning, they discovered he was a 21-year-old man called Jared Opiyo Nyatumba who hails from Homa Bay and was not Sheila Bichange as he had claimed.
Nyatumba told the officers that he dressed as a woman as he harboured feminine qualities since childhood.
He was dressed in a cute dress, but they found him with no female features after he was asked to undress.
Awendo residents would get wind that a man posing as a woman had been arrested, and they went to the police station in numbers demanding to see the suspect.
It emerged that the impersonator was linked to a spate of killings allegedly perpetrated by a suspect posing as a woman in the area, and they thus wanted to teach him a lesson.
“The suspect was shown to them through the report office window, but they insisted that he should be handed over to them for lynching,” the report indicated.
The charged villagers went on a rampage after their demand to see the suspect was declined.
