The Board of Government, Management, current and Old Students of Boa-Amponsem Senior High School (SHS) celebrated it’s 60th anniversary
The school, being the first Senior Secondary in the capital of Denkyira kingdom was established in 1961 as part of the Educational Trust Schools by the then President Kwame Nkrumah and now has a student population of 2267 with a breakdown of 682 form one , 674 form two and 929 form three .
The theme for the celebration is “The Role Of Stakeholders In Processing Quality Free Senior High School Education for National Development.”
The celebration which was initially scheduled for 2021 has had to be rescheduled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated restrictions at the time.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Grace Anopong, when she was addressing the gathering of old students and guests, thanked old students for their immense support through projects and donations towards the development of the school.
She commended government , Religious bodies, Municipal Chief Executive Officer ,Upper Denkyira East MP and Corporate Organs for their support towards the school dealing with its accommodation challenges.
According to the headmistress, even though the school has received numerous support from its old students and other institutions, the school still has challenges with infrastructure, and appealed for more dormitories, classrooms, a new Assembly hall .
“Civil engineers during routine exercise has called for the existing Ghanablock dormitory to be pulled down as the extend of deterioration renders it not having the structural integrity to withstand the current pressure of congestion and overcrowding,” she said.
The acting director of Education Central region Justi Ivy Apau who represented Mr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister For Education as the guest Speaker said the government is committed to the development of education and assured that Boa-Amponsem SHS will be supported by the government to ensure that students receive quality education.
“Sixty (60) years of 2nd Cycle education is no mean an achievement and you all deserve to savour every inch of it . It is a quality education well travelled . From the President Nana Akufo-Addo and my Ministry I say Congratulations, Ayeeko.”
Nana Ama Ayensuaa Saara III, Denkyirahemaa who was the guest of honour ,reminded the gathering that education is the duty of all the us government, the tradition authorities ,old students, parents, students, school authorities and indeed the general public.
“I hereby pledge on behalf of the Denkyira Traditional Council and Nananom of Denkyira that we will continue to do our part to achieve our .”
The were Goodwill messages from Mr. Ebenezer Forson Appiah, Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Anthony Takyi ,Municipal Director Of Director, Professor Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah Board chairman of BOASS, Hon. Festus Awuah Kwofie MP Upper Denkyira East.
Over the past 60 years, the school has produced very renowned personalities as old students, otherwise known as Odeefuo Maa.
