The Cameroonian striker has not played a part in the club’s pre-season friendly due to ill health
Asante Kotoko striker Mbella Etouga was rushed to hospital on Friday when Kotoko thrashed lower division side Army FC 4-0 in a pre-season friendly.
The Cameroonian, who was on form last season after scoring 21 goals, is yet to play a single minute in Kotoko’s pre-season games which has raised concerns among the supporters over his future at the club since he was linked with Udinese.
However, the first vice chairman of Kotoko’s National Circles Council, Nana Kwame Dankwah, has refuted reports that Etouga may leave and further explained the situation.
“Mbella Etouga and Mfegue are still at the club and part of the team for the new season. They did not dress in the game against Panthers FC but Mfegue dressed just that the coach opted to rest him,” Dankwah said during a Twitter Space on Saturday morning.
“In the game against Army FC, I arrived at the venue late and when I asked of Mbella, I was told he has been sent to the hospital in a car. He was not feeling well that is why he did not play in that game,” he added.
Kotoko have announced an international friendly against Sudanese giants Al Hilal on August 23 in Omdurman.
