The President of Adansi Traditional Council, Opagyakotwere Bonsrah Afriyie ll, has asked the government of Ghana to provide further details in exactly what the mineral royalties is used for.
According to him proper accountability is lacking in the utilization of the fund and as such demands accountability.
This question was directed to Ashanti Regional Minister during the official launch of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine 10 year Socio-Economic Development Plan.
Senior Sustainability Manager of the Mine, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, said the Plan will help to diversify and sustain the Obuasi economy, improve social development and promote cross-section partnerships.
Key areas targeted by the 10-year socio-economic development Plan include health, construction of roads, education, skills development, water and sanitation.
The rest are entrepreneurship, partnerships, community infrastructure and industrialization.
In attendance was the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah who admonished Galamseyers to desist from encroaching on AGA lands so it won’t lead to another closure like it happened years ago.
Responding to Adansihene, the Regional Minister also added that the mineral royalties is now under the minerals development fund so District Assemblies have no hands in it as it was.
