The Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware- Mensah has revealed that the Akufo Addo led administration is putting in place measures to increase National Service allowances from GH¢559 to over GH¢800 effective next year.

The Director speaking to the media said the initiative has been sent to parliament to consider and approve.

She noted that if Parliament approves it, National Service personel will be paid more than 800 Cedis from next year. ” Unfortunately, all we can tell is that it will cost more than GH800. The service has a vision to giving each person over 800 Cedis each month” she promised.

Meanwhile some angry National Service personel was at the office demanding for their unpaid allowances. According to the group who calls itself Association Of Suffering National Service Group revealed that government has not paid them allowances due them for the past three months.

They added that before any other promise is made, the arrears owed them should be paid. Mrs Gifty Oware went on to explain why most National Service personel have not been paid.

” Many of them have not submitted their monthly assessment or some of them have delayed in submission and so, after we pay the general one, yes there are few payments that we have to make and we do those payments before we pay our next in line. So yes, we are going to make sure we pay them and if you did not work for any month, you are not going to be paid.”

The good news is that graduate who will be doing national service from 2023 going should be expecting to receive monthly allowances of over 800 Cedis as promised by Mrs Gifty Oware Mensah ( Deputy Executive Director of National Service Scheme).
