Maame Abena Dufie reported to the Suame Police station early in the morning with her sister. They had a big case to settle because the police arrested her sister a few days ago and they had to report for her statement to be taken officially.
Maame Abena Dufie and her sister were there when the police patrol team came with a man arrested and handcuffed. He had received some beatings and blood was oozing from his head, apparently, he was riding an unregistered motorbike and that led to his arrest. After the police brought him out of the vehicle, he told them that he was a military officer and that they should take it easy on him.
He went ahead to produce his identity card to prove his membership in the military but that did not also save him. He even invoked curses at a point to prove that he was with the military but that did not also hold. He did not stop there but pulled a mobile phone and called one of his friends who is also a military officer to come and help him out.
He also came with a motorbike and tried to speak to the police officers but it yielded no positive result. The commander at the station asked his men to take the young man inside the building for peace to prevail.
Maame Abena Dufie -Eyewitness
His friend who is also a military man left the scene after he failed to convince the police officers but he returned with a pickup containing about six military officers. This is where the whole action began according to Maame Abena Dufie who was at the police station.
To Maame Abena Dufie and other eyewitnesses, what happened between the police officers and the military could have been avoided if the police officers had not assaulted the soldier man. The Police high command has assured the public of thorough investigations into the unfortunate clash. However, Maame Abena Dufie and the other eyewitnesses believe that the police and the military should be one to fight crime and not the other way around.
If the account by Maame Abena Dufie is the truth, then the police officer who arrested the Military man should be investigated and punished because any suspect arrested should not be subjected to any form of assault. Watch the video of her account here
